you - as gently as possible.

There is no obligation to use our full service, but most people do.
1. No telephone number
Incredible but true, some job hunters forget to put their telephone number
on their CV. Makes life pretty hard for the recruiter.
2. Talking about yourself in the third person
“Dave
Smith is an organised individual and he has a real appetite for work”
It makes you sound like an unhinged lunatic – don’t do it.
3. Jobs in the wrong order
This is
just so wrong! Think about it. You’re currently a Sales Manager and the
first thing a prospective employer reads about you is that you were an
office junior.
Always put your current job first and then go in reverse order.
4. Too long
2 pages
is ideal. 3 is the absolute max. Nobody has the time to read anything longer
and what does it say about you if you can’t condense your career into a
concise document?
5. Unusual Hobbies
You might feel it is great that you enjoy climbing trees in
your spare time, and it probably is a deeply rewarding, uplifting, spiritual
part of your life. But to most people it says lunatic - in big shiny neon
letters.
6. Criticising Your Current Employer
Never, ever, ever slate your employers. No matter how bad it
was. Especially don’t put in your CV that you took your employer to a
tribunal. This is the Kiss of Death.
7. Wrong Dates
So, so common. Make sure that you finished one job before the
next one starts.
8.
Pictures
If you’ve
got one on your CV, delete it NOW!
A CV is a
ticket in the door; don’t give them a reason for not wanting to see you.
9. Reasons for Leaving
Again, this is very common. This is an issue to be discussed
at interview. Why tell an employer upfront that you’ve been made redundant 5
times or that you left every job because you didn’t get on with the manager?
You’ll only put them off.
10. Lying
Cardinal sin. You’ll always get caught out. Maybe not
immediately, but eventually. There is a fine line between selling yourself
and
lying – don’t
cross it.
